With Valentine’s day coming, here’s a new Photoshop Tutorial on cienel.net we’ll create a cool chocolate, and sweet text effect Valentine’s card using a lot of layer styles, and some brushes. Resources needed: Tissue_paper_texture_by_MapleRose_stock LINK
Open up Photoshop and create a new document, the size of your screen resolution, mine is 1250x750px with a transparent background. rename the layer «Background» and fill it with White, Edit - Fill- White.
Add a Gradient Overlay layer style of the Background layer, Layer - Layer Style - Gradient Overlay, with two light pink colours going from #F2C7E0 to #F8AEEA with those parameters:
Let’s now add a little texture on this background, download the paper texture in the ressources needed section a the top of the tutorial, drag it into your document, use the Free Transform Tool (Ctrl+T) to rezise it. change its blending mode to Multiply and the Fill to 20%.
For the text I used a font called «Bello Script», you can use any font you like, write Happy on the top left part of the card in black.
Now let’s add the layers styles to create this cool glowing sweet effect with those parameters:
Now we have created the sweet effect, let’s create the chocolat effect , also using a lot of layer styles, use the Text Tool (T) and write «Valentine» under the «Happy» text with the same font.
Next let’s add the layer style to give it a chocolat effect with those parameters:
In this step we’ll add the apostrophe and S next the the Valentine text, select the Text Tool (T) and write an apostrophe «‘«, when that done we’ll apply the sweet text effect on this apostrophe, to quickly do that select the «Happy» text layer, right click on it and select «Copy Layer Style» then select the «‘» apostrophe layer, right click on it and select «Paste Layer Style».
Repeat the same process for the «S», use the Text Tool to write the «S» at the end of Valentine’s and copy the chocolat layer style from the «Valentine» text layer to copy it on the «S» text layer.
Let’s add a little splatters on this card, I used some Splatters Photoshop Brushes I found on deviantART,Splatter Brushes on deviantART, download the splatters brushes you like, load them in Photoshop, then create a new layer, use the Brush Tool (B) to paint a big splatter on the top right corner of the card.
We’ll cant to apply the Sweet effect we created before on this splatter shape, like before copy the sweet layer style for the «Happy» text layer and paste it on the new layer.
Repeat the same process on a new layer, with an other splatter brush, I painted one on the bottom left corner of the canvas then copied and pasted the Chocolat layer style on this layer.
In this step we’ll create a custom heart pattern for the background, create a new document in Photoshop with a dimension of 250x250px and a transparent background, select the Custom Shape Tool (U) and pick the heart shape in the toolbar, create a 100x100px heart shape in the centre of the canvas, then create 4 other heart shapes on each corners of the canvas with the same size, make sure to place the centre of the hearts on each corners. Now go back to the original card document and copy the Chocolat layer style from the «Valentine» text layer, go back to the heart pattern document and paste in of the first heart shape layer we created, the one in the centre of the canvas.
Repeat the same process for Sweet layer style and paste it on the 4 hearts in the corners, then select the whole canvas, Select - All and go to Edit - Define Pattern, rename the pattern «Heart Pattern» and click OK. Save this pattern document then go back to the original valentine’s card document.
Create a new layer, fill it with white, change it’s Fill to 0%, place this layer in front of the «Background» layer then apply a Pattern Overlay layer style on it with the Hearts Pattern we just created and those parameters:
That’s it for this tutorial, I hope you’ve learned from those techniques. Feel free to leave a comment and share your creations.
