In this Photoshop Tutorial I'll show you how to create a mysterious and fantasy portrait of a woman. This tutorial focuses on retouching techniques and creating dramatic lighting effect. Resources needed: Background LINK Model LINK Flame flower LINK Snowfall LINK
Drag flame flower into our document and place it at the left side of model face:
Hit Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+U to desaturate this flower:
Change the mode to Screen 30% to hide dark background then add layer mask to this one. Use soft black brush to remove hard edges:
Duplicate this layer three times and move them to the right cheek and chin sides. Use layer mask to blend them with the face and remove any part outside the face area:
Make 4 these layers selected then hit Cmd/Ctrl+G to make group for them. Change the mode from Pass Through (default mode group) to Screen 100% (it's very important to keep the effect like before grouping). I name this group as "face texture".
Create a Curves layer inside this group:
This helps to blend flowers better with the face:
Create some adjustment layers on the top.
I make a new layer with settings like in step 4. I use Dodge and Burn Tool with Midtones Range and Exposure varied from 20 to 50% to enhance the face features and make some lights on model hands:
I make a new layer with same settings but with Dodge tool only to create some highlights for the face:
Make a new layer and I use brush with color #9cd5e6 to paint inside the bright parts of model irises. I set the mode to Overlay 100%:
Make a new layer and I change brush color to #417ba4, lower opacity and flow of brush to 25-30% and paint on the left edge of model hood to create subtle light effect there:
Create a new layer, change brush color to #61aab4 and size to 3-4 px. I use Pen Tool to draw some paths around the right eye:
Right click these paths, choose Stroke Path:
We'll make strokes for left eye later, with another color.
New layer and with same method (use Pen Tool), I lower brush size to 2 px to highlight the curves on face texture. I change the mode to Color Dodge 50%:
Open snowfall stock. Drag it over the picture, convert to Smart Object and change the mode to Screen 100%:
Go to Filter-Blur-Motion Blur:
Use layer mask to remove and blur snow on model face:
