In this Photoshop Tutorial we will create a beautiful pink flower portrait. We will use many techniques, from combining stock images, using brushes and transform tools, retouching and making up model, adjusting color, decorating text and also learn how to extract the subject ( model) using blending modes.

Step 1

 

Create a new document (600x700), fill it with white them move the model into it. Press Ctrl+Shift+E to merge them.

 
 
 

Step 2

 

Create a new layer, choose Edit-Fill with color EA8BA3.

 
 
 

Step 3

 

New layer, use floral swirl brushes, number 2484, 445 px with color f5a3ee and settings to paint on the pic, then set it to Screen 50%:

 
 
 

Step 4

 

Create a new layer, use soft white brush to paint on the pic, then set it to Soft Light 100%

 
 
 

Step 5

 

Click to choose all layer except background (the girl pic), press Ctrl+G to make group for them. Right click this group, choose Duplicate group, then right click group copy, choose Ungroup layers:

 
 

Merge these three layers then name it "Pattern". This step is to save layers in previous step and you can easily edit them later.

 
 

Step 6

 

Come back to background. Click it to make it editable (layer 0). Rename it Girl. Duplicate it 3 times and move them to the top (above pattern layer) like the pic below:

 

Set girl copy layer to Soft Light 100%, girl copy 2 layer to Multipy 100%. Choose girl copy 3 layer (layer on the top), then choose Magic Wand Tool:

 

Choose Select-Modify-Expand with 1 px:

 

Click Delete we have:

 

Add Layer Mask to this layer, use soft black brush with opacity 50% to eraser the hair like the pic below:

 
 

Step 7

 

Choose girl copy 2 layer, add Layer Mask and with soft black brush to erase dark strokes of her hands, face, shoulders and flowers (it caused Multipy mode)

 

Choose girl copy 3 layer, press Ctrl+M to adjust Curves:

 
 

Step 8

 

Still on this layer, use Lasso Tool to create a selection around model face the nose except eyes, lips:

 

Copy and paste it into a new layer (Ctrl+C to copy, Ctrl+V to paste)

Set Surface blur:

 

Lower Opacity to 50%:

 

This step is to soften her face skin:

 
 

Step 9

 

Come back to girl copy 3 layer, create selections for the rest of her skin except hands with feather = 2:

 
 

Copy and paste into a new layer.

Press Ctrl+M:

 

It's to balance the skin of mode. We have result:

 
 

Step 10

 

Come back to girl copy 3 layer again, make selection around roses on her hairs:

 
 

Copy and paste into a new layer. Use move tool to edit if it's awry from original.

Choose Image-Adjustment-Selective color:

Reds: -29, 100, -37, -41

Yellows: -89, -16, -59, -30

 

Then press Ctrl+U to adjust Hue/Saturation:
